Vergiftete Menschen und Ambitionen - durch sie brennen Häuser, ehe sie aufgebaut denn würden.

Der Befehl zum Angriff, ich habe ihn sehr oft vernommen; Sperrfeuer gegen Feind gesprochen, dem ich nichtmal ins Auge sah : tausend mal hab' ich's gehört, und tausend mal bin ich gefallen!

Und tausend mal sah ich sie fallen, tausend mal tat es mir weh; bis das Blut gefror, und auch ich starb, als Hülle blieb.
Wie ich (blieben) so viele hier im Feld, in Schlachten, (in denen) wir für jene Stritten, die billigend in Kauf genommen, den Untergang von uns und unseren Völkern ..

Tausend Sonnenuntergänge
- täglich! -
(nur) für 'ne Theorie.
Tausendfach zerstört das Licht
und Potenzial der ganzen Welt.

Nun was blieb von uns, Kamerad?
Nur Staub und Schatten in einer Welt.
Der Krieg hat unser Volk und uns versehrt,
sind alt, mit nichtmal zwanzig Jahren!

Und in Kriegszeit feiert man die Helden,
im Frieden weint man dann am Grab!
Wie mein letzter Blick schweift heim
zu Haus und Hof : Familie,
zu der ich nicht mehr (zurück)kehren darf,
denn auch ich bin im Krieg geblieben.
Und ich spür nurnoch die Stille,
sie ist nicht besser, als
der Krach des Krieges
in meinen Ohren!
